Angelo Cortez, son of Tina and Jose Cortez, is an urban artist who lives in south Phoenix. Having grown up both in Vahki in District 5 and downtown Phoenix has helped Cortez gain fundamental knowledge in various art mediums. He has always been fascinated by cultural designs and imagery found on Akimel O’odham-related pottery.
Cortez took art courses at Phoenix College in 2012 but has done art for as long as he can remember. Cortez’s best skills as an artist are precise linework, unique color blending and large-scale mural rendering. Cortez likes to express urban and cultural abstract design styles through both spray and acrylic paint.
He finds his inspiration from his daughter and spending time in nature with his family as well as indigenous arts and his cultural heritage.
