Arizona Helping Hands
Did you know when you play at Gila River Resorts & Casinos, you’re playing for good?
The Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact provides shared revenues from gaming to invest in improving education, healthcare, conservation, and the economies of local communities throughout the state. Under the compact, 12% of revenue from Gila River’s casinos is distributed to local cities, towns, and counties for community services and public safety programs, as well as non-profit organizations, and the Gila River Indian Community. Gila River Resorts & Casinos’ philanthropic program, Gila River Cares, is distributing funds to several nonprofit organizations across the Valley, including Arizona Helping Hands.
Arizona Helping Hands is the state’s largest provider of basic needs for the more than 14,000 children in foster care. The organization aims to build confidence and self-esteem in children by providing them with essential needs items.
The organization relies on volunteers and donors like Gila River Cares to make programs readily available for children at a moment’s notice. In 2021, the organization served more than 4,000 children through its Basic Needs program, which provides children with a safe place to sleep and personal hygiene kits.
Another program the organization supports is the Back to School program which provides backpacks and school supplies to underserved students. The need for the program became so vital for the children, that it is now offered year-round. Another program called Birthday Dreams was created to give children a personalized birthday gift package that includes celebratory birthday items such as cake, party decorations, toys, games, books, and puzzles to help them celebrate their special day.
The Foster Footlockers program provides storage trunks to the children to keep and secure their personal items safely. The trunks give the children peace of mind for their personal belongings and keepsakes when moving to foster homes.
